Die Expedition ARKTIS VIII/1 mit FS 'Polarstern' 1991

Die achte Arktis-Expedition der ''Polarstern'' begann mit dem ersten Fahrtabschnitt am 1. Juni 1991 in Bremerhaven, der am 19. Juni in Tromsoe endete. Die Untersuchungen fuehrten in das Gebiet der Groenlandsee/Framstrasse bis in die Nordostwasser-Polynya vor Groenland. Die ozeanographischen, biologischen, chemischen und geologischen Arbeiten in der Framstrasse ergaenzten die Untersuchungen der bisherigen Fahrten in dieses Gebiet. Verankerungen, die im letzten Jahr ausgebracht wurden, konnten nur zum Teil geborgen werden. Neue Verankerungen wurden auf 79 N ausgebracht, um den Ausstrom polaren Wassers durch die Framstrasse besser quantifizieren zu koennen. Diese Arbeiten wurden mit oekologischen Untersuchungen auf einem Schnitt entlang dieser Breite kombiniert, der bis an die groenlaendische Kueste in die Nordostwasser-Polynya (NEW) ausgedehnt werden konnte und somit als Vorstudie fuer das 1993 stattfindende Polynya-Programm dienen wird. Geologische Arbeiten haben erste Daten ueber Sedimentablagerungen im Polynya-Gebiet erbracht. (orig./KW)The eighth expedition of RV ''Polarstern'' to the Arctic started with the first leg in Bremerhaven on June 1st which ended in Tromsoe on June 19th. The investigations were performed in the area of the Greenland Sea/Fram Strait and in the Northeast Water Polynya of Greenland. The oceanographic, biological, chemical and geological investigations in Fram Strait continued the studies in this region from other ''Polarstern'' cruises. Moorings from last year were partly recovered. New moorings were deployed along 79 N to monitor the freshwater outflow of the Arctic Ocean through Fram Strait. These deployments were combined with ecological investigations along a transect on the same latitude. The transect were continued towards the Northeast Water Polynya (NEW). Investigations there were pre-site studies for the Northeast Water Polynya activities in 1993. Geological samples gave first information about sediment accumulations in this area.
