Measurement of the chemical composition of the atmosphere and monitoring of the spatial and temporal trends in the distribution of trace gases are of fundamental importance for understanding atmospheric processes. The goal of the project was the simultaneous measurement of trace species in the Arctic and in mid-latitudes as part of the Transall experiment of the Ozone Research Program of the BMBF. A cryogenic high-resolution Fourier-Transform-Spectrometer developed for measurements from aircraft of emission spectra of the trace species was used for this purpose. From data measured during several arctic expeditions, the spatial and temporal trends in the stratospheric trace gases HNO_3, ClONO_2 and O_3 in the north polar winter were derived....
