Seismic data is usually processed and interpreted for structural information. The aim of the LITASEIS project was to develop and to test methods for a lithological interpretation of seismic data, and to summarize the experience in guide lines. A central part of the work program was the acquisition and processing of a shear wave survey in Northern Germany, where complex near surface structures are encountered. Comprehensive investigations on near surface properties and on acquisition and processing parameters were carried out. An integrated interpretation yield a seismic shear wave section down to base Zechstein.
