The electronic properties of single and coupled semiconductor quantumdots are analyzed and the energy spectrum determined by both optical and transport spectroscopy and compared with theoretical calculations. Beside the lateral confinement (by etching) of two-dimensional systems and resonant tunnel structures for the realization of quantum dots, the direct growth of single electron transistor was demonstrated.
