Agency in intersectionality. Towards a method for studying the situatedness of action

The aim of this article is to offer a reflection on intersectionality as an analytical tool to investigate agency as a situated form of subjective action. In this article, the reference to intersectionality will be considered a useful epistemological and methodological tool to investigate a double specific characteristic of agency: the capability of the subject to deal with relevant social categorizations, such as gender or ethnicity; and situated agency, as a temporary subjective synthesis of the social reality, in contrast to the continuous flux of social life experienced as it changes over time.Cet article présente une réflexion sur l’intersectionnalité en tant qu'outil analytique capable d’explorer la notion d’« agency » comme forme située de l’action subjective. Dans cet article, la notion d’intersectionnalité est considérée d’abord comme un outil épistémologique et méthodologique pour analyser une double caractéristique de l’agency : la capacité du sujet à faire face aux catégorisations dans lesquelles il ou elle se trouve impliqué(e), comme celles de genre et d’ethnicité ; l’importance du positionnement et du contexte, où l’intersectionnalité constitue un moment de synthèse temporaire par rapport aux flux de la vie sociale et de ses expériences
