"1"3C nmr spectroscopy has been applied to study the carbon flux distribution through parallel metabolism pathways in Corynebacterium glutamicum: diaminopimelate-dehydrogenase/succinylase (I), pentose phosphate way/glycolysis (II) and the flux through the tricarbon acid cycle (TCA cycle). The contribution of pathway I to the lysine production is a function of the ammonium ion concentration in the nutrient solution. Using 1-"1"3C and 6-"1"3C labeled glucose as substrates, it is demonstrated that the flux via way II correlates with the supply of NADPH generated by pathway II.
