In order to contribute to the basis of photodynamic tumor therapy, photosensitizers in different media have been subjected to in-vitro characterization by time-resolved and microscopic fluorescence spectroscopic investigations. The studies were carried out with two hydrophile sensitizers (TPPS_4:5,10,15,20-tetrakis(p-sulfophenyl) porphyrin; TPPC_4:5,10,15,20-tetrakis(p-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin), two hydrophobe sensitizers (HEP_n:2-hydroxyethyl-7,12,17-tris(methoxyethyl) porphycene; ATPP_n:9-acetoxy-2,7,12,17-tetrapropylporphycene) and the amphoteric protoporphyrin IX-dimethylester (PP).
