The study looks into the following question: What investigations have so far been carried through on the environmental compatibility of plastics from renewable resources as compared to plastics on a petrochemical basis, and what are their conclusions as to whether it would be ecologically beneficial to phase in the production of plastics from renewable resources. To give an idea of the complexity of this question, some aspects of the environmental relevance of plastics on petrochemical basis and plastics on the basis of renewable resources are dealt with.
