Nasschemische Oxidationsverfahren im Bereich der Abwasserreinigung gewinnen zunehmend an Bedeutung. Zu dem eher klassisch zu nennenden Gebiet der oxidativen Umwandlung (Entgiftung) von Cyaniden, Nitriten und schwefelhaltigen Verbindungen (Sulfide, Sulfite und Thiosulfate) sind Verfahren zur Oxidation organischer Stoffe hinzugekommen, da die gestiegenen Anforderungen bezueglich des CSB-Eliminationsgrades bei vielen industriellen Abwaessern durch biologische Behandlung allein nicht mehr zu erreichen sind.
