Vergleichende Umweltanalyse von Thermoplast-Bauteilen aus Recyclat und Neuware

A precautionary protection of the environment is supported by use of the Environmental Assessment (Umweltanalyse) and the Comparative Standardizing Examination (Vergleichende Normierende Bewertung - Venob). By using single steps of a life-cycle assessment (LCA) the environmental impacts caused by products, processes and procedures can be assessed - even before any emissions are generated. These potential impacts are then compared with the costs of the manufacturing process. The practical Environmental Assessment shows impacts on the environment and determines energy and water supply of the production of plastics products made of recyclate (material recycling) and new material. Window profiles and bumpers are chosen as exemplary products because they can be manufactured using new material as well as a recyclate of the same used products. The results for window profiles and bumpers show that products made of recycled material have less impact on the environment than similarly applied products made of new material, even assuming worst case data (high transport, unfavourable recycling process). The results of Venob can be presented schematically. They enable engineers to optimzie and develop products and processes in terms of impact on the environment. Thus product and process variants can be selected with regard to their environmental performance which means that plastic products and processes can be applied with less negative impact on the environment and in a more cost-effective way.
