Solid-Phase extraction (SPE) used in a sampler for organic micropollutants was investigated for interferences from humic substances in coastal waters. With a Reversed Phase model system (Rapid Chromatography) general knowledge was obtained about adsorption and interaction processes that are responsible for enrichment of organic compounds. A modul humic substance definitely reduced-though differing in strength the enrichment rate of the individual chlorinated and polycyclic-aromatic hydrocarbons investigated, whereas this effect was found to be lower with natural humic substances.
