The impact of aerosols on clouds and climate is still insufficiently known. Therefore, the project aimed at investigating aerosols in the upper troposphere, especially the aerosol formation by ion-induced nucleation. This requires to characterize as completely as possible aerosol particles and their gaseous precursors, and was accomplished by aircraft-borne simultaneous measurements with a high temporal resolution of aerosol precursor gases, ions and microclusters, together with aerosol parameters.
