Today ionassisted PVD coating processes are used for a multitude of optical applications in optical thin film technology. They combine the advantages of a low process temperature and a high-energetic film condensation, which is ideal for the coating of plastics. Target of the research work done at the LZH was the realisation of optical functional coatings on PMMA and PC (in reduced extent CR39, PU, PSU) substrates, which also provide a mechanical and a chemical protection.
