The integrated global water model WaterGAP (macroscale; time step: 1 month) was used for large-scale simulation of the effects of climate change and global change on water availability, high water and low water events and the hydroelectric potential of Germany and Europe, in consideration of long-term scenarios of change. The polygon-based hydrological modelling system ARC/EGMO, with high spatial resolution (mesoscale; time step: 1 day) is used for investigations with high spatial and temporal differentiation of the effects of changes in climate and land use on discharge in river catchment areas of different sizes, i.e. with different degrees of complexity of modelling.
