In an extensive literature review it could be shown that the collection of biological particles (microorganisms, pollen) in air filters is rarely investigated. Few experimental work was done with high efficiency air filters. These filters showed good collection efficiencies for airborne microorganisms. No multiplication of microorganisms in these filters could be detected as long as no nutrients were available. There is no work reported on fractional efficiency measurements for bioaerosols with air filters used in common air conditioning systems.
