A concept for resource and environmental profile studies in waste management is developed within a framework of a pilot study. The concept is based on the consideration of the concept of total pollution impacts (''Lastpakete'') arising throughout the entire life cycle of a discarded product. This allows the comparison of different disposal and recycling concepts by means of linking, using techniques of systems analysis, the various environmental impacts (loads) and merits (recycling credits) of such concepts.
