Tourism in the coastal region of Germany was and still is marked by high development dynamics. In connection with the overall structural change tourism developed more and more towards the fundamental economical factor. Decreases in demand through events which had a negative impact on nature and landscape show us that the German coastal area is very much dependent on a long term workable development of tourism. Even though since a couple of years scientific research has focused on the environment, climate and climate change are not taken adequately into account neither of the analysis of demand nor at the providers. The aim of the joint task is the description of the sensibility of tourism in the coastal region of Germany towards a possible change in the climate, the assessment of the possible extend of affection and the supply of information which both is action-oriented and relevant for decision-making. The assessment of the effects of change in the climate and the consequences for tourism is not possible without basic knowledge of the effects of climate, variability of climate and tourism. The requirements for this are to be found in the development of perspectives for the coastal tourism. With the help of the methodical approach of the 'Entwicklungspfade', two 'Entwicklungspfade' for the coastal tourism were articulated, described and investigated with regard to climate sensbility. This part of the project will both help to provide the expected information of the project for future research and for practical decisions in tourism and policies, and to state more precisely our own knowledge about the sensbility of coastal tourism for climate change and their effects.
