Hazard assessment of chemical contaminants in soil has been distinctly more oriented to estimate the exposure of human beings than to define impacts on ecosystems. Therefore the present report focusses on the latter problem by giving a detailed survey of the state of the art in ecotoxicological determination and evaluation procedures of soil contaminants. The potential adverse effects of a pollutant on soil organisms, the physical and chemical features of soils and ecosystems are described systematically.
