The study analyses the technical feasibility and the required expenditure of time and work for unauthorized retrieval of fuel elements during the post-operational stage of an ultimate disposal facility in a salt dome(Gorleben). There are two possible diversion ways after shutdown of the mine as an ultimate repository: (1) direct access by means of sinking shafts or drilling holes directly into the storage fields; (2) indirect access by means of driving a new mine. With today's technology it is possible to retrieve POLLUX containers, provided a temperature limit of 100 C is observed.
