The task of the research project was the cleaning of metal contaminated mine water from the former Freiberg mining area. The removal of the ecological relevant metals Zn, Mn, Cd, Cu, Fe and Pb was carried out on the basis of microbial work principles. As biosorbent was used a mixed aerobic microbial culture, which was isolated from water and sediment of a mine adit. Investigated parameters of the process, such as temperature, pH, nutrient and biomass concentration and retention time, which influence the process, were used for the conception and construction of a continuous lab scale plant.
