Since November 1987 aerosol samples were collected at seven sampling sites in Baden-Wuerttemberg (FRG) and analysed for the inorganic components H"+, NH_4"+, Na"+, K"+, Ca"2"+, Mg"2"+, Cl"-, NO_3"-, SO_4"2"-, Pb, Cd and Ni. For most of the investigated components the results indicate a distinct concentration gradient from urban to remote areas. The anthropogenic heavy metals Pb, Cd and Ni are especially concentrated in the dust. As compared to results obtained from earlier investigation the concentrations in general decreased during the past years.
