Ueber den Stoffhaushalt der Landschaft und ueber die diffuse Belastung von Boeden, Fliessgewaessern und Grundwasser, dargestellt an ausgewaehlten Standorten

Today, these themes 'substance balance of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems' and their 'load by non-point sources' are of great interest, especially when the properties of surface water and groundwater have to be preserved or to be treated for reconstruction. The book, which is here presented, therefore, deals with the fluxes of water and substances between atmosphere, soil and waters and with the internal processes of substance turn over. The following central points are presented: transport of substances, storage in soils and their impact as acidification of waters; the impact of soil use by agriculture and forestry about the way of erosion and leaching on waters. In the foreground of discussing are substances as nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur or groups of substances like chlorinated hydrocarbons, trace metals, pesticides. The quantity of fluxes and of turn over processes for different substances is demonstrated with the help of case studies. Ways of solving problems are shown, which are caused in water protection zones by agricultural land use or by gravel pits.
