Within the project of the TU Hamburg-Harburg, Department of Waste Management, in the joint research project 'Landfill Body' the long-term emissions and the risk potential of old deposits were investigated with extensive laboratory tests. With landfill simulation tests, which were to show the coherence between the waste components, the age and milleu conditions of deposition and the resulting course of emissions, the medium and long-term behaviour of landfill bodies should be predictable. Moreover procedures to accelerate conversion processes in landfills were developed in laboratory scale and tested to assess their effectivity.
