This project was part of the joint research project 'landfill body' with investigations for landfill behaviour of separated or pre-treated waste fractions (biological pre-treated, waste with low organic content). It could be shown that MSW also after separation of organic fraction (residual MSW) has nearly the same landfill behaviour as mixed MSW. The content of organic and inorganic hazards in both MSW streams is relatively low. The biological pre-treatment of MSW improves the landfill behaviour. The residual gas production is low but the remaining leachate pollution of organic carbon and nitrogen is significant. The time reaching discharge limits without leaching treatment could be reduced by biological MSW pre-treatment. The investigated industrial wastes (from metal processing industry) and street sweeping waste had a very low organic content. The overall pollution potential of this waste fraction is insignificant higher or even below limits of the German Technical Instruction on MSW (TASi). The estimated leachate pollution is low and discharge limits could be reached in the near future. No measurable gas production could be estimated.
