Evaluations of the waste water streams of different european countries are given. Criteria for the toxicity of the water effluents were developed. Ecotoxicological assessments are made with the help of bioassays. The performance of the test methods is analyzed and the quality of the analyses of the laboratories is evaluated. The need of standardized procedures for quality control of the collected data is described.
