Exemplary Swiss and Swedish studies on ultimate storage sites in granite formations were compared with German studies on ultimate storage sites in salt formations. As examples for a storage site for HAW from reprocessing plants, the studies 'Projekt Gewaehr'' and 'Kristallin I' were compared with the PAGIS study. As examples of an ultimate storage site for direct storage of spent fuel elements, the study 'Project-90' was compared with the SAM study. The scenarios, types of waste and inventories used in all studies were considered as well as the assumed effects, models and initial parameters and the effectivity of effects and barriers.
