A boundary element method for the study of threedimensional dynamic interaction problems between a structure and the surrounding soil working directly in the time-domain is presented. After a summary of the basis of the direct BEM in time-domain, the efficency of the algorithms is pointed out by comparisons with analytical procedures and numerical solutions of other authors. Then the BEM-procedures are used to study the dynamic interaction of coupled soil-structure systems. At last the time-stepping BEM-procedures have been extended to solve threedimensional frictionless contact problems in elastodynamics.
