Unfallgeschehen im Bereich von Streckenbeeinflussungsanlagen unter besonderer Beruecksichtigung der Verkehrsbelastung

This research project investigates the accident occurrence in the area of route information and management systems, allowing particularly for traffic load, both fundamentlly and using specific examples. The aim of the investigation was to develop a method which could be used to quantify the safety gains in the area of traffic control and guidance systems. The method was also to be suitable for allowing the anticipated safety gain to be estimated for planned control systems. The methodical approach is based on the consideration that use of the route information andmanagement systems influences traffic safety in the load classes to differing extents. The parameters for the methods of computing the safety gains are to be determined by a (uniform) analysis of the accident occurrence with existing route information and management systems. Only accidents involving injuries of types 1 (road accidents), 6 (accidents involving traffic moving in the same or opposite directions) and 7 (other accidents) are considered as the basis for the data. Three load classes are formed depending on the traffic volume (at the instant of the accident) and the number of lanes. Using a simplified statistical test, the significance of changes to the accident rate are checked using a before-and-after comparison in the individual load classes. The general trend in accident occurrence is allowed for on the basis of the change in nationwide accident rates. The results will be discussed with the operators in order, amongst other things, to obtain explanations of differing trends in accident rates.
