This research project investigates the accident occurrence in the area of route information and management systems, allowing particularly for traffic load, both fundamentlly and using specific examples. The aim of the investigation was to develop a method which could be used to quantify the safety gains in the area of traffic control and guidance systems. The method was also to be suitable for allowing the anticipated safety gain to be estimated for planned control systems. The methodical approach is based on the consideration that use of the route information andmanagement systems influences traffic safety in the load classes to differing extents.
