The objective of the documented project was to develop the principles for low-damage, chemically supported ablation of engineering ceramics using a pulsed 300-W solid state laser and a pulsed 1000 W solid state laser with optical fiber. The investigations are aimed at creating an alternative, more efficient technology of ablative forming as compared to machining with diamonds. This new technology is intended to open up new approaches to the production of complex ceramic components. The desired damage-free ablation, coupled with continuous property control, is designed for precision machining and finishing of ceramic materials. It is shown that no general parameters can be indicated for optimum laser ablation of ceramics. At any rate, these ...
