Designing of spot welds which are subject to cyclic loading requires reliable methods for determining the fatigue and operational strength performance for fatigue life prediction. By way of experiments, stresses leading to cracks in the sheet metal are correctly determined by radial strain measurements at the electrode impression and converting the measured values for the inner side of the sheet based on simple interrelationships. With the investigations conducted within the scope of this work it has been demonstrated that the strength performance of spot-welded components which are subject to cyclic loads can be described using certain local stresses.
