As-cast ingots of Ti-48Al-2Cr show a dendritic and lamellar microstructure, which is inhomogeneous and causes an anisotropic mechanical behavior. Therefore, a thermomechanical treatment is necessary before rolling this material. With an homogenization, double upset forging, annealing and aging treatment we get very homogeneous equiaxed microstructures. With the final heat treatment we can optimize the properties of the material, which has a good hot formability and is suited for the rolling process. The yield stress, fracture stress and strain are measured in dependence of the temperature. A yield stress anomaly is observed. Around 300 C the work hardening is very high and athermal.
