An optimal internal geometry of a regenerator for gas refrigerators was to be found by numerical flow simulation, i.e. a configuration with a favourable ratio of pressure loss to heat transfer - the two effects which cause most of the losses inside gas refrigerator cycles. A prototype with optimized geometry was to be constructed and tested.
