Black gold and thin metal layers on dielectric substrates as far infrared absorbers in thermoelectric detectors were investigated. Black gold having low heat capacity and high absorption up to wavelengths of 1,000 #mu#m was produced, its spectral properties investigated and theoretically described. Their usability in sensors was demonstrated for up to 500 #mu#m. The technology for production of thin metal films of appropriate conductivity was developed. As for their use in thermoelectric detectors, the preparation and handling of thin unsupported dielectric layers was successfully investigated. A method of determining the thermal conductivity of thin layers was set up and tested successfully. Deposited silicon coatings proved to be unsuitab...
