The present teaching material contains the theoretical basic knowledge for a newly developed EDP-supported course of introduction to hydromechanics for students of civil engineering and anti-pollutive technology. It gives an introduction to the mathematical and fluid mechanical bases, and founded on these bases it demonstrates the application of numerical methods such as the finite different method and the finite element method to the simulation of flow and transportation phenomena in surface waters and aquifer systems. The detailed representation of the numerical methods facilitates the access to the scientific literature in the field of hydromechanics.
