Requirements with regard to process regulation and treatment time were investigated at the mechanical-biological waste treatment plant (MBT) of Quarzbichl. Both aerobic and anaerobic treatment phases respectively their combination were taken into account. The aim of the treatment was to obtain a stabilized product which can be landfilled in an environmentally friendly way. To characterize the landfill behaviour adequate testing methods were developed and appropriate threshold values were derived: - Respiration activity over 96 hours #<=# 5 mg O_2/g dm - Dissolved organic carbon in eluate #<=# 300 mg/l.
