The author considers rearrangement collisions at the borderline of cold multinucleon transfer and deeply inelastic collisions and the relation of multinucleon transfer to fission and fusion. First he discusses one- and multinucleon transfer as a quasielastic process in a semiclassical approach. Then the experimental techniques are described. Thereafter an overview on the multinucleon-transfer reaction is given with special emphasis on the properties of the composite system. Finally the connection between transfer and fusion is considered with regards to the creation of new elements or isotopesPrepared for 'Heavy Elements and Related Phenomena', eds.: R.K. Gupta and W.
