Messung der Ladungsasymmetrie von b-Quarks auf der Z"0-Resonanz Untersuchung semileptonischer Zerfaelle in Myonen mit dem DELPHI Detektor

The forward backward asymmetry of beauty quarks is measured with the DELPHI detector at LEP in e"+e"--collisions at the Z"0-resonance. Because the asymmetry depends on the ratio of the weak couplings this leads to a precise measurement of the electroweak mixing angle sin"2#theta#_w. The tagging of b-quark events has been performed using their semileptonic decay into muons. In total 350000 hadronic Z"0-decays taken with DELPHI during the years 1990 and 1991 have been analysed. The parameter A"b_F_B is obtained by an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the (p_L, p_T, cos#theta#)-distribution of the muons with respect to the thrust axis. The orientation is determined by the measured muon charge. Using 270000 events at the centre of mass energy of #sq root#s #approx# M_z the experimental result is: A_F_B"b","e"x"p = 8.9 #+-# 2.4 (stat.) #+-# 0.6 (syst.)%. After correcting for the effect of B"0 anti B"0-mixing the b-quark asymmetry becomes A"b_F_B = 11.9 #+-# 3.2 (stat.) #+-# 0.9 (syst.)%. Combining the value with our measured b-quark asymmetry from the semileptonic decay into electrons and taken into account electroweak and QCD radiative corrections the effective mixing angle yields sin"2#theta#_w"e"f"f = 0.2269 #+-# 0.0050 (stat.) #+-# 0.0017 (syst.). (orig.)Seit 1989 wird am e"+e"--Speicherring LEP das Austauschteilchen der schwachen Wechselwirkung, das Z"0-Boson, in grosser Zahl produziert. Aus den mit dem DELPHI Detektor akkumulierten Daten der Jahre 1990 und 1991 wurden etwa 350000 hadronische Z"0-Zerfaelle selektiert, davon etwa 250000 Ereignisse bei #sq root#s = M_z. Die inklusiven Myonen besitzen ihren Ursprung im semileptonischen b- und c-Quark Zerfall. Eine Anreicherung der b-Quarks erhaelt man ueber ihren hohen Transversalimpuls bezueglich der Flugrichtung der urspruenglichen B-Hadrons. Mit einem Maximum Likelihood Fit wird die b-Quark Asymmetrie aus den Daten bestimmt. Dabei werden die Teilchen aus b-Zerfaellen nach ihrem Ladungsvorzeichen klassifiziert. Die experimentelle b-Quark Asymmetrie bei #sq root#s = M_z ermittelt sich zu: 1990 : A_F_b"b","e"x"p = 11.5 #+-# 4.3 (stat.) #+-# 1.2 (syst.)%, 1991 : A_F_B"b","e"x"p = 7.8 #+-# 2.8 (stat.) #+-# 0.9 (syst.)%. Nach Korrektur auf die Mischung im B"0 anti B"0-System erhoeht sich die b-Asymmetrie bei #sq root#s = M_z auf: A"b_F_B 11.9 #+-# 3.2 (stat.) #+-# 0.8 (syst.) #+-# 0.4 (misch.)% wobei die Ergebnisse der Datennahme 1990 und 1991 kombiniert sind. Bei Hinzunahme des DELPHI Wertes aus dem semileptonischen b-Quark Zerfall in Elektronen und unter Beruecksichtigung von QCD und elektroschwachen Strahlungskorrekturen erhaelt man: sin"2#theta#_w"e"f"f = 0.2269 #+-# 0.0050 #+-# 0.0017.
