The physical and technical fundamentals of diode-pumped NYAB (Nd-doped yttrium aluminum borate) laser systems are investigated. NYAB is an optically nonlinear laser crystal. The optical nonlinearity allows one to generate laser light while doubling the laser light frequency. The basic wave length of the NYAB laser is 1062 nm, the wavelength of double-frequency radiation is 531 nm. The properties of NYAB lasers with different resonator configurations are investigated. Excitation is by means of diode laser arrays with emission wavelengths of 810 nm and emitter widths of 60 #mu#m, 100 #mu#m and 200 #mu#m.
