The system study exhibits crossconnect systems for optical switching applications in the near future. Switches should be fabricated with PMMA and ORMOCER materials. During the project processes for fabricating planar optical waveguides of SiON materials and multilayer thin film circuits on silicon substrates for high frequency applications were developed. Coupling techniques for fiberarrays to PIN-diode-arrays, single laserdiodes and laserdiode arrays to planar waveguide arrays, diebond processes for large area laser arrays and reliable glueing processes for large area silicon substrates on metallic carriers with low tolerances have been developed.
