In this project we developed metal coated capillary optics for X-ray microfocusing. Techniques for the production of proper glass capillaries and for the characterization of their performance in X-ray optics (transmission, beam profile, beam divergence and energy spectrum of focused photons) were provided. Beam diameters below 2 #mu#m and an increase of the photon flux density of up to two orders of magnitude in the focus, also with hard X-rays, were achieved using lead glass capillaries. The beam divergence behind ellipsoidal capillaries allows a working distance of about 0.5 mm.
