In many empirical and theoretical models of nucleate boiling the gravity level and the gravity induced natural convection play an important role on the heat transfer process. Usually a decrease in the heat transfer coefficients of nucleate boiling with decreasing system acceleration is predicted. The results of nucleate boiling measurements under microgravity during two space shuttle flights (IML-2, LMS) demonstrate, that no decrease of the heat transfer coefficients during saturated and subcooled nucleate boiling takes place. As a main result it can be stated, that the acceleration level itself cannot be regarded as a primary influence parameter on the heat transfer process during nucleate boiling.
