A potential-based panel method is developed for the treatment of the free surface flow of a ship. The boundary conditions on the free surface are linearised about the successive approximated solutions of the velocity potential and the wave elevation. The partial differentials of the velocity potential are approximated by finite difference procedures. The wetted surface of the ship and the free surface are updated after every iteration. The modelling of the transom stern is based on the assumption that tle flow leaves the edge of the transom tangentially. Wenn arranging the hull panels the transom is considered to be open. The computed results in the near field of the ship are plausible. But the wave systems in outer field and behind the shi...
