The aim of the project was basic research for the production of large volume metallic functional prototypes with the LASP (Laser Assisted Sliced Prototyping) - process. The prototypes are laminated with metallic sheets and afterwards bonded by means of laser beam spot welding. As a result of an economical study it was shown, that prototypes could be built up two times cheaper and five times faster by the LASP-process than by conventional prototyping processes. The accuracy of a first prototype was in the same range as achieved by conventional methods. With this prototype, first forming tests could be realised succesfully.
