The knowledge of astrometric data of stars in our Galaxy was growing very slowly during the last decades and was insufficient both in a qualitative and quantitative sense. The satellite project Hipparcos meant a great jump forwards. We have contributed to its success by a) the treatment of data of known double stars, b) measurements and reduction of star positions in and around globular clusters, c) measurements and reductions of star positions around extragalactic objects - and thereby with an extragalactic connection of the proper motion reference system. Besides of the not yet fully perceivable scientific results, the project as a whole has shown the possibility of a complex international collaboration with precise targets and date-limit...
