In the present work the possible influence of nucleation on the thickness of a shock tube, is investigated. Therefore, measurements with and without condensation in the mean flow have been performed using an optical method, which utilizes the dependence of the reflexion of light from the shock front on its thickness. Additionally, condensation is monitored by means of scattering and extinction of laser light. As a test gas Perfluoro-n-hexane is used, which, due to its high molar specific heat, exhibits retrograde behaviour. For suitable conditions the gas reaches a supersaturated state within the shock, which gives rise to nucleation.
