Superdeformation in "1"4"4","1"4"5Gd und Ansprechverhalten von CLUSTER-Detektoren in der Hochspinspektroskopie

Four experiments were made to search for superdeformation in "1"4"4","1"4"5Gd. The high-spin states in these nuclei were populated with the "1"0"8","1"1"0Pd("4"0Ar,xn)"1"4"4","1"4"5Gd reaction. The "4"0Ar-beam was supplied by the heavy-ion accelerator VICKSI at the Hahn-Meitner-Institute, Berlin. The #gamma#-radiation was measured with the #gamma#-spectrometer OSIRIS, consisting of 12 anti-Compton spectrometers and an inner ball of 48 BGO scintillators, acting as sum-energy and #gamma#-multiplicity filter. For each nucleus two different experiments were carried out. In the first experiment a thin target was used, while a target backed by a layer of "1"9"7Au was used in the second experiment for each nucleus. "1"4"4Gd: Analyzing the first experiment information on two superdeformed bands was obtained. From the experiment with the backed target the level scheme of the normal-deformed states in "1"4"4Gd up to I"#pi#=28"+ was built up. One of the superdeformed bands was assigned to "1"4"4Gd by analyzing coincidences between transitions of the superdeformed band an #gamma#-rays placed in the newly established level scheme. "1"4"5Gd: Information on two superdeformed bands was obtained from the thin target experiment. By analyzing coincidences between transitions in the known level scheme and the superdeformed bands one of the newly found superdeformed bands was assigned to "1"4"5Gd. Due to statistics the thick target experiment gave no further information.
