The problems, which are decisive in the progress of diamond synthesis technology are discussed. The main directions of investigations are specified, they are calculation of the distribution of thermomechanical stresses and temperature in the volume of a reaction cell under extreme conditions of diamond synthesis; construction of ternary phase equilibrium diagrams under pressure and with heating melts in the carbon-carbides-metals systems; theoretical-experimental analysis of wetting and capillary phenomena at the molten metal-growing diamond crystal interface.
