Une forte expression du récepteur H3 et de ses ARNm a été montrée dans le striatum de rat. La forte colocalisation des ARNm du récepteur H3 avec ceux de la met-enképhaline confirme que de nombreux récepteurs H3 sont exprimés dans les neurones striatopallidaux. De plus, le ciproxifan, un antagoniste / agoniste inverse du récepteur H3, potentialise les effets neurochimiques et comportementaux d'un neuroleptique, le halopéridol. Le ciproxifan potentialise également la diminution de l'expression des transcrits pour la met-enképhaline induite par la methamphétamine.
