In order to increase the corrosion resistance of Ni in artificial seawater, various surface treatments from more classical (thermomechanical treatments) to more sophisticated (ion implantation, electron irradiation, ion beam assisted deposition) have been performed. Many experimental techniques have been used, and impedance spectroscopy is shown to allow a detailled study giving the specific frequency for each step of the corrosion process. A model is proposed accounting for the experimental results. Two main stages are detected with increasing immersion time.
