Le Sri Lanka possède de nombreuses mines de graphite de qualité principalement situées dans les hauts plateaux. Quatre types de morphologie ont été identifiés dans les filons des mines de Bogala (B) et de Kahatagaha-Kolongaha (K) : fibreux (SSI), radial (CFR), strié (SCF) et en plaque aiguilletée (NP). L'analyse du carbone (d13C) confirme que la minéralisation du graphite de Ceylan est d'origine magmatique.
